Definitions
Soil microbiome
All microorganisms living in soil (bacteria, fungi, etc.). It contributes to thatch breakdown, nutrient cycling, competition against opportunists and overall green resilience.
16S
A DNA marker used to describe bacterial communities. It supports compare diversity and major groups.
ITS
A DNA marker used to describe fungal communities. Useful to monitor balance and some opportunistic groups.
Rhizosphere
The soil zone around roots where microbial activity is especially high — often a principal lever for turf health.
Microbial antagonism
A microorganism limiting another via competition, antibiosis, parasitism or enzymes. One mechanism behind biocontrol.
Trichoderma
A fungus often used in biocontrol: colonization, enzymes, mycoparasitism on some fungi, contribution to stability. Performance depends strongly on application conditions.
Bacillus (e.g., subtilis, amyloliquefaciens)
Robust bacteria able to produce metabolites and colonize quickly. Often used in biocontrol, sometimes as a “foundation” before adding a fungal component.
